By car
If you arriving by car, main direction is thru Split from which you take ferry (2h) to Stari grad (www.jadrolinija.hr).
Ferries during summer period usually goes at least 5 times per day. Out of the season, ferries depart 3 times per day so you have to plan carefully. When you arrive to Stari grad follow direction to Jelsa, Pitve and Zavala. On entrance to Jelsa you take direction to Pitve, Zavala (on the right). After passing picturesque village Pitve (must see location during your stay) you will come to the one way, traffic light ordinated, rock tunnel which will take to southern side of the island. When you exit the tunnel, view will open on magnificent island of Scedro and Adriatic Sea. After few downhill turns, road will take you to the left side following Zavala direction.
When you enter Zavala, just follow main road until you reach Restaurant Konoba Zavala (on your left, cca 600 m from sign Zavala on the entry to the village). After Konoba Zavala you just go further for about 150 m and take first turn to the left (road in a bit narrow and steep, concrete built). You go up following the road for 100 m and you arrive to your Summer house destination (after strong left, you have one right, straight and left turn). 🙂
If you are a bit adventures, you can take the road to Drvenik and take small ferry to Sucuraj. This is eastern point of Hvar island and ferries goes every 1h during the season (www.jadrolinija.hr). To reach Drvenik you have to pass Split and continue on the highway to Makarska (exit Zagvozd, Makarska). When you reach Makarska, you just continue straight to Drvenik (cca 30 km from Makarska). If you miss your ferry, Drvenik is very nice location to visit with long, beautiful, sandy beach and excellent restaurants so you will have lovely waiting time. After you arrive to Sucuraj just follow the road to Jelsa, Pitve, Zavala. To Jelsa you have cca 50 km curvy road but with beautiful small villages along the way that are worth to visit (Zastrazisce, Gdinj, Bogomolje). After you reach Jelsa, follow the road to Pitve, Zavala (on the left).
By plane
If you are arriving by plane your main airport is Split Airport (usually you go thru Zagreb Airport but during summer there are many direct flights).
When you reach Split Airport, you have to go to Split ferry port from which you can take ferry (line Split-Stari grad, www.jadrolinija.hr) or catamaran (line Split-Bol-Jelsa, www.jadrolinija.hr). To reach Split ferry port you can rent car, take bus/shuttle or taxi (Uber is also operating beside normal taxi). You can find up-to-date information on www.split-airport.hr/.
If you decide to take ferry to Stari grad and you are without car, you have to take taxi to Zavala. There are a lot of them waiting in Stari grad ferry port when you exit ferry. The ride to Zavala should be around 40-50 euro. If you have car, just go to section By car and follow directions.
On the other hand if you choose catamaran line to Jelsa, your only option is taxi from Jelsa center to Zavala. The ride to Zavala should be around 30-40 euro.
We do not recommend to take catamaran lines to Hvar city because taxi ride to Zavala will be very expensive (more than 100 euro).
